Brief Character History

Bo Brady stormed into Salem with his motorbike and leather jacket. He fell immediately fell for upper-class girl Hope Williams. Too bad she was engaged to Larry Welch. They admitted their feelings for each other, but out of a sense of duty, she married Larry. Soon after, they divorced, and Hope and Bo married in a regal ceremony given to them by the English royalty.
He learned that Victor Kiriakis, crime boss extraordinaire, was his natural father. He had been borne of a torrid affair between his mother and Victor. Victor tried his best to change his son, but to no avail. It didn't work. Soon after, Bo did something to infuriate his new found father, and Victor denounced his son, even having a fake paper drawn up saying Bo was not his son. Hope miscarried their first child while they lived in the Kiriakis mansion. She got pregnant again, and Shawn Douglas was born. They set sail around the world not long after.
Three years later, Bo got involved with Ernesto Toscano's dealings. Hope got involved also. She died in an explosion, and so was Ernesto. No body was ever found, but everyone around Bo reasoned with the man who wouldn't believe it was true... no one could ever survive that explosion. Bo, heartbroken returned to Salem to restart his life with his son. After some healing time, he got involved with Dr. Carly Manning, who had some secrets of her own. She had a son with " Sleazy Larry" Lawrence Alamain, who she had thought had died. That was not the case. Although she and Bo tried to go down the altar, something always stopped them. When Carly was presumed dead, she was actually re-living her youthful love with Lawrence. Their old romance rekindled, Carly and Lawrence returned to Switzerland. Bo was left also again, only Billie Reed was there to pick up the pieces of his heart.
After a winding engagement, starting with her not telling him about her father's sexual abuse towards her and the return of his presumed dead wife Hope, Billie and Bo got married. Only he couldn't fight the feelings he had for the mother of his son. Billie returned to Paris after granting him a divorce. Hope and Bo, after many years apart, explored their feelings for each other and were engaged. On their wedding day, Bo got frozen by falling in cold water, and trying to conserve body heat, Billie undressed Bo and lay in bed with him. Hope walked in, looking for her husband-to-be-again, and saw them like this. She thought they had made love, and cancelled the wedding.
Billie and Bo became involved in a drug smuggling case in Salem, after Shawn D had gotten shot by drug dealers. J.L. King, in order to test Bo's loyalty to the drug ring, made Billie and Bo get married. Hope, by a strange turn of events, became bridesmaid, and slimy Franco Kelly, the best man. She fainted at the wedding. Bo, beginning to think Hope didn't love him anymore, consummated his marriage to Billie and she got pregnant with their daughter Georgia, who she gave birth to prematurely in the Bayou. But Billie, out of spite for Hope, blamed it on an argument they had had earlier, and Hope was left with an enormous amount of guilt, keeping Hope and Bo apart.
Bo then got interested in Hope's past, but she refused to participate in the search with him. He went to the Bayou again where he met Swamp Girl, a scarred girl who knew some secrets about Hope's past. She knew quite a few. She was the person who had taken Hope's place in the cage at Ernesto's. She was scarred, and Hope was taken to safety by Stefano. Bo returned with Swamp Girl (AKA. Princess Greta) to Salem, who was afraid of civilization because of her scars. Hope has been transformed into Princess Gina, but no one knows this, although Greta has a sense that her mother is around when Hope's around. Bo is treading on dangerous territory.
Bo didn't catch on to the truth about Hope's dual identity until after the real Hope had been kidnapped, and Gina had taken her place. He was horrified when 'Hope' shot their son Shawn, but it was the impetus needed for Bo and everyone else in Salem to learn the truth. After rescuing Hope and Stefano from their imprisonment, Bo returned to town with Hope, who was very, very pregnant with a child Bo knew could not be his. They were married in June 2000 while Hope prepared to give birth to a baby boy, and renewed their vows again later in 2000. Bo was devastated to think that the baby boy he loved, J.T., was really John Black's child, but his love for Hope was too strong to break them up.
Bo and Hope were also devastated when they learned that their child was switched at birth with the child Lexie adopted, and that the father of the baby boy they had been raising was fighting for custody of his son. They fought to keep J.T., and also fought to take Isaac from Abe and Lexie. Their plan was to raise the two boys. They lost custody of J.T. to his natural father, but luckily Abe relinquished custody of Isaac to Bo and Hope. Rather than cause the boy serious issues by changing his name mid-stream, they simply shortened it to Zack.
Bo faced possible heartbreak when Hope was kidnapped, and Lexie was the prime suspect, but it turned out that Larry Welch (Hope's former love who went to prison) had kidnapped Hope. They were trying to get their life back on track and Bo quit the force so he and Hope could become bounty hunters. When things started going bad for the Salem PD, Bo and Hope were both reinstated as police officers, and focused all their energies on the Salem Stalker serial killings.
Roman and Bo both begged Caroline to tell them where she was the night Maggie died, and to explain her prints on the bottle used to bludgeon her. She refused to, and unfortunately, she was poisoned not long after. The entire Brady family was devastated by her death. Part of Bo refused to accept not only Caroline's death but also Roman's death at his own wedding just weeks later, and when news came that the Salemites might be alive, he was desperate to believe it. Thanks to Roman's efforts to send a message, Bo was able to track down the survivors and reunite with his lost family members and even his former wife Billie until, again, his father and mother were presumed deceased.
After getting back to Salem, Bo and Hope began putting their lives back together. Just as they were starting to get everything settled down again and beginning to work on the problems with their son Shawn and his new girlfriend Jan, Bo and Billie learned that their daughter, Georgia, was alive and well. Bo and Billie began searching for the teenager, and learned that she had been adopted and was living right in Salem. When the search for Georgia stagnated, Bo concentrated on patching up his marriage with Hope (which had hit the skids when he and Billie were looking for Georgia), and bought a new boat for her, the Fancy Face III.
Bo and Billie eventually learned that Chelsea Benson was their daughter, and immediately Bo found himself caught between Chelsea and Hope because Chelsea kept asking for money and Bo felt so guilty about not being there for her growing up he would give her the money even though he and Hope really couldn't afford it. He helped Chelsea get out of trouble a few times, but finally put his foot down before Christmas and she lost her driver's license. He arranged for her to have driver's lessons, and when she told him how great her instructor said she was, he agreed to let her have the car on New Year's Eve. Unfortunately, Chelsea wasn't paying attention and accidentally hit young Zack Brady, who was at a sleepover. Bo was devastated to learn that his daughter accidentally caused the death of his son.
Bo and Hope were unable to reconcile after Hope learned that he was responsible for Chelsea having the car that night, and the two separated. When Hope learned she was pregnant, Bo was devastated when paternity tests proved that Patrick Lockhart was the father of her unborn baby, but he was still determined to be part of Hope's life. Despite numerous warnings that he was going to far in his quest to bring Patrick down, Bo continued his investigations, and was briefly kicked off the force as a result. It all proved to be worth it to him when Patrick confessed, as Hope was giving birth in a warehouse, that the baby was actually his. Weeks later, Bo and Hope finally chose a name for their newest daughter -- Ciara Alice Brady.
In the summer of 2007, Bo and Hope both resumed their careers as detectives for the Salem PD. Bo and Hope traveled to Ireland to investigate the kidnapping of their granddaughter, Claire. While there, they uncovered several secrets. First, Claire had been kidnapped by Colleen Brady, Shawn's sister, because Colleen was trying to keep Stefano from taking Claire. Colleen knew Stefano was after her because she was his father's mistress many years ago. The affair produced a son, John Black. Second, Bo and Hope learned that Bo is suffering from a rare pancreatic disease that the doctors couldn't completely diagnose.
Anxious to get home to start treatment, Bo and Hope boarded a plane with the rest of the Bradys to head home from Ireland. But, the plane was sabotaged. It lost altitude and not all of the oxygen masks worked. A sick Bo passed out. To save his son, Shawn insisted that his oxygen mask be put on Bo so that Bo could live. Shawn died because of the lack of oxygen. The plane crashed in Greenland. Eventually, all of the survivors were rescued and Bo committed himself to living a full life in honor of his "pop," Shawn.
Bo's pancreas disease worsened and the doctors could not diagnose the problem. Victor called upon his godson, Dr. Daniel Jonas, to treat Bo. Dr. Jonas performed a radical surgery- a pancreas transplant from a live donor. Bo's daughter, Chelsea, was the donor. Bo and Chelsea made it through the surgery and Bo continued to a full recovery. Chelsea and Daniel became close after the surgery and started dating. Bo was uncomfortable with the age difference, but supported his daughter.
Bo went back to work and investigated the John Black DiMera drug case and the subsequent Paul Hollingsworth disappearance case. While working on the Paul Hollingsworth case, Bo came across a tape recording of a conversation between Paul and Bo's brother, Philip, in which Philip threatened to kill Paul. Victor (who was recovering from a stroke) asked Bo to protect Philip. Torn between his family and his duty, Bo gave the tape to Victor. It turned out that the tape was a plant that John Black DiMera had arranged. When the Philip was not arrested, John leaked the news to the press that Bo had tampered with evidence. Bo was taken in for questioning, but was cleared of all charges. In the November of 2008, the new mayor, Abe Carver, named Bo the new police commissioner and Bo dove right into his new job.
In December 2008, Bo was hanging the star on top of the Christmas tree and fell off the ladder and hit his head. Medically, he was fine. But, Bo began to have visions in which he heard a child screaming. The visions came at the same time that Theo Carver disappeared and somehow those visions led him right to Theo; and Bo returned Theo back to Abe and Lexie.
But Bo's visions were not over. In January he had a vision of Hope shooting Kayla. Bo tried to keep the two women apart, but he was not successful. Hope accidentally shot Kayla during a hospital hostage situation. Kayla recovered from the shooting.
Bo's next vision was of Hope in bed with Roman. Desperate to make sure the vision didn't come true, Bo tried to keep Hope and Roman apart. But, Hope and Roman did end up in a hotel room together as part of a police sting. Bo busted the sting before anything resembling his vision could happen.
Bo's fourth vision was of himself running through a park, calling for Ciara, only to find her abandoned teddy bear on the ground. Sadly, this prediction came true. During the summer of 2009, Ciara was kidnapped from the Salem carnival. Despite the circumstances, Bo and Hope had very different opinions on how to proceed when the kidnapper demanded five million dollars for Ciara’s safe return. Victor fronted the money, and Hope was prepared to give it to the culprits, but, against her wishes, Bo offered the money as a reward for anyone who could help bring the kidnappers to justice. Hope was extremely upset and feared Bo sealed Ciara’s fate – that the kidnappers would kill her and they would lose Ciara like they lost Zack. But Bo knew he had done the right thing as the kidnappers wouldn’t have returned Ciara alive. Eventually, Ciara was rescued by a Salem police officer named Dean Hartman, and Bo and Hope showed up moments later to reunite with their little girl.
Shortly after the ordeal with the kidnappers ended, Hope took Ciara and moved out. Although she remained in love with Bo, she said she needed time and space to heal. Bo was beside himself and fought to keep his family together, but Hope was adamant about moving out. After staying with Doug and Julie for a few days, Hope accepted Victor’s invitation to stay at the Kiriakis Mansion.
Around this time, Bo’s former flamer Carly Manning returned to Salem. She sought out Bo as he was one of the only people she trusted. Bo agreed to protect Carly while she was on the run from the Alamains after she killed Lawrence in self defense. Yet Bo didn’t tell Hope exactly why Carly was there nor did he divulge Carly’s other secret – that Melanie Layton was her daughter. Hope was hurt he didn’t trust her. Hope also objected to Carly staying in their home, but had little say in the matter since she had moved out. Eventually, Bo and Carly began a romantic relationship once again.
As time went on, Bo fell in love with Carly again. He also vowed to protect her at all costs, especially from Vivian Alamain who was plotting her death. Bo warned Victor that he would rather kill Vivian and go to jail than see her hurt Carly or Melanie. In an attempt to help, Victor told Vivian he would marry her – something she had always wanted – if she would stop trying to harm Carly. Vivian agreed and the two were engaged.
During the spring of 2010, Bo traveled to Los Angeles when Kimberly was diagnosed with Leukemia. He was a bone marrow match and donated some of his to help save his sister. He stayed with her for several months while they both recovered.
When Bo returned, he resumed his relationship with Carly. The timing wa also perfect as he arrived back just in time for Victor’s wedding to Vivian. With his return, Bo also decided to divorce Hope. However, before he could present her with divorce papers, he found out Alice was dying and decided to hold off. But Jennifer accidentally found the papers in his living room and showed them to Hope. Bo apologized, but was still upset her had hurt Hope during such a vulnerable time for her.
To cope with the stress, Hope began taking sleeping pills. While under the influence, Hope would wake up and assume a different personality. "Nightime Hope" would assault and rob the powerful men of Salem. Her attacks culminated with an attempted murder on Bo. He was able to overpower "Nighttime Hope", tape her confession, and play it for Hope when she woke up.
Hope was so devastated by what she had done that she insisted on turning herself in and pleading guilty to all charges. Hope was sentenced to jail time. While in jail, Hope began to uncover an organ trafficking scheme. When the Warden realized Hope was onto their scheme, she threw Hope into solitary confinement. Hope reached out to Bo. He snuck into the prison and helped her escape. While on the run, they collected the rest of the proof they needed to prove what was happening.
When the Warden and her accomplices were arrested, Hope received a commuted sentence and Bo returned to the police force. The time on the run, had pushed Bo and Hope back together. Bo and Carly ended their relationship. Slowly, but surely, Bo and Hope started to rebuild their marriage. Then moved back in together and Hope rejoined the police force.
Hope was having a hard time working with Rafe because his files were always very sloppy. Wondering what his problem was, Bo and Hope began to trail Rafe. Their information lead them to the warehouse where the found Arnold. As soon as Bo and Hope figured out that Arnold was an imposter, Bo and Hope teamed up with Sami and Rafe to get proof that the DiMeras created the imposter and thus were responsible for all of his subsequent crimes. Eventually, Arnold agreed to testify against E.J. and Stefano in exchange for immunity and witness protection.
Just as Stefano and E.J. were about to be booked, some other inmates recognizes Arnold as Rafe and beat him to death. Stefano and E.J. were arrested for Fay's murder, but had to be released once Arnold's statement was no longer in evidence. To take the fall for the mistake, Bo had to resign as Commissioner. He rejoined Hope as a detective and her partner.
Their investigation into the DiMeras wasn't the only thing that Bo and Hope had on their minds. While Hope, Bo, Sami, and Rafe were trying to get information out of Arnold, someone assaulted E.J. and almost killed him. It didn't take long for Bo and Hope to learn that Brady was the assailant and Melanie, Dario, Daniel, Carly, and Jennifer covered for him. Bo and Hope took charge and ordered everyone to keep quiet. When Maggie, Victor, Nicole, and Taylor learned the truth, Bo and Hope told them to keep quiet as well.

Brief Character History

Billie and her brother Austin came to Salem in late 1992, adding a new dynamic that had a ripple effect upon the populace. Within months, Billie lost a job due to her drug habit, became Carrie Brady's roommate, and nearly fell back into prostitution. The intervention of Carrie's Uncle Bo saved her. Then, when an old crime pal came through town, his stashed money drew Billie into Jack Deveraux's shenanigans.
Billie Reed came to Salem shortly after her brother Austin arrived in 1992. A product of a dysfunctional household, Billie grew up with her share of problems; she was a porn star and stripper who was sexually abused by her father. In Salem, she lost her first job due to her drug habits and would have fallen back into prostitution if it weren't for the saving graces of Bo Brady. She moved in with Carrie Brady and began to pull her life back together.
Billie and Austin were both shocked when their presumed-dead father, Curtis, resurfaced in Salem. Shortly after his arrival, Curtis was found shot to death with Billie's gun. Although innocent, all fingers pointed to Billie and she was charged with his murder. Throughout the entire trial, Bo stood by her side. By the end of the ordeal, it was revealed that Stefano had killed Curtis in self-defense and that Kate Roberts was Billie's biological mother. Later, Bo proposed to Billie and she happily accepted.
Meanwhile, Gina showed up in Salem to complicate matters. Gina didn't regain her full memory as Hope until after Bo and Billie were married but that didn't stop her from coming between the newlyweds. Hope's presence was too much for Bo; his marriage to Billie was soon declared invalid. She left for Paris to promote her Countess Wilhemina cosmetic company but returned to Salem in time to prevent Bo from remarrying Hope. Billie and Bo went undercover to expose an illegal drug ring and rekindled their love in the process. They were forced to marry in Rome in order to make their cover convincing and their bond grew even deeper. Later, they conceived a child named Georgia but Billie miscarried during her pregnancy and was devastated by the loss, but Billie did use it to her advantage and blamed Hope, which everyone later discovered wasn't true.
Bo and Hope eventually reconciled and Billie resumed her secret, and codependent, relationship with Bo's brother, Roman Brady. She continued to have feelings for Bo and slowly rebuilt her friendship with Hope.
Billie was involved in fierce competition with her mother over Nicholas Alamain. Despite her best efforts to win him over, Nick was hopelessly in love with her mother. Feeling betrayed and defeated, Billie contemplated exposing the affair to Victor but ultimately took the high road and decided against it. Billie left Salem for a much needed break from her mother and relationships.
Upon her return in 2002, Billie’s car was hit by a falling meteor. She pretended to not know who she was and, with the help of her little brother Philip, escaped from the hospital. She lived with Kate while attending the Salem police academy, but after being shot while working with Larry Welch (whom she believed to be part of the ISA), Billie left town again, heading to London to join the ISA at Roman Brady's suggestion. She wasn't heard from for months, but then she had a message for Bo...she knew who the Salem Stalker was, but she would only tell him. Unfortunately, she went missing at the same time.
Billie turned up on Melaswen, and was instrumental in helping the Salem residents to escape the island. She was one of the lucky ones who made it back to Salem, where she soon admitted that she never had and never would stop loving Bo Brady. She was preparing to leave town when Bo broke the news to her that there was information found on the disks they managed to smuggle out that indicated their daughter Georgia was still alive, even though everyone believed she was stillborn in the bayou years earlier. Billie and Bo began searching for their daughter, who would now be sixteen. After searching the DiMera castle in Europe, they finally learned that Georgia had been adopted as a child, and lived right in Salem.
Unfortunately, the search for Georgia stagnated, and Billie needed a new cause to focus her attention on. When Abby's friend Chelsea was in a serious car accident and her parents died, Billie took the teen in after learning that her family had been virtually penniless. The two of them moved in with Patrick Lockhart. It wasn't long before they learned that Chelsea was, in fact, Billie's daughter -- but Chelsea couldn't stand her. Billie tried with her daughter, though, and they were finally able to formulate a relationship and even became quite close. After a brief relationship with Steve Johnson, which ended when he had full recollection of his past with Kayla, a depressed Billie ended up getting drunk one night and fell into bed with Chelsea's friend Nick, who had come to see her to get advice about Chelsea. Chelsea was devastated to learn that her mother had slept with Nick and it took some time to forgive them.
Billie later got a job at Salem University, heading up the campus security division. While there, a number of Chelsea's sorority sisters were raped. Billie helped the girls figure out that Ford Decker was responsible for the rapes. When Ford accidentally died at the sorority house, Billie helped the girls come forward with the information. None of the girls were punished, but unfortunatley Billie lost her job. However, Victor offered her a job heading up the securities division of the Titan offices in London. Billie packed up and left Salem to take the job.
In April of 2009, while still in London, Billie was in a terrible accident. Although she recovered, she required intensive physical therapy and multiple surgeries. Chelsea moved to London to help her mom through the recovery.

Brief Character History
Benjy was the only child of Ellen Hawk, and one of many belonging to Stefano DiMera. His parents had a brief relationship, but once his mother and grandfather learned who and what Stefano was, they fled with him. When he caught them, he had Ellen killed. Although able to hear at birth, he became deaf after being trapped in one of Stefano's many homes when it exploded. Kayla and Steve Johnson found Benjy while on their honeymoon in the Orient, and wanted to raise him as their own, until Stefano came back into his life. Eventually, though, Benjy ended up living with his maternal grandfather, Orion Hawk, when he told Stefano he wanted nothing to do with him.
Benjy returned to Salem briefly after Steve and Kayla were nearly poisoned at the hospital, and it was Benjy's presence and Steve's sudden usage of sign language that helped Steve to remember the love he and Kayla had once shared. Benjy later introduced Steve and Kayla to his wife, Sonia, and the two told Steve and Kayla about the son they had. Benjy gave Steve the death Tarot card immediately after dinner, and later Benjy admitted that he was forced into doing so by E.J. and Stefano, who had threatened to harm his family.
Benjy was kidnapped during the search for a liver donor for his ill father Stefano, and was only saved after being found by a homeless man. During his recovery, he left the hospital to shoot at Stefano's corpse during Stefano's faked funeral, and later his dead body was found in Stefano's coffin while Steve was looking for Roman.

Brief Character History

Barb Reiber was introduced in Chicago, where her husband Glen saw a picture of a woman on the news who he realized was his former girlfriend Marlo, who had left town while pregnant with his child. Barb and Glen immediately headed to Salem, identified the body, and began inquiring as to what happened to her child. Although initially they were given the runaround, they were eventually able to clarify that Marlo's child, a boy, was adopted by the Carvers, and immediately they wanted to get him back. After Jennifer Deveraux had a car accident that resulted in a baby being thrown into the river, Barb and Glen rescued him, and took him to Glen's aunt Elsie's cabin, where they cared for him. What they didn't know was that the baby they had was actually J.T. Brady, and not the child the Carvers had adopted (what nobody knew was that Stefano had switched the babies at birth, so the Reibers actually did have Marlo's true son). When he started to have breathing difficulties they eventually returned him to Salem, where they were told that they had the wrong child.
Glen and Barb returned to Chicago where they awaited the results of the DNA test, and where Barb also learned of her own pregnancy. When the test results come in, Barb realized that J.T. actually was Glen's baby, and that the infants had to have been switched at bith. She soon realized that Lexie had to know the truth, and once back in Salem, began blackmailing Lexie with the knowledge that she could destroy their family at any time. She managed to luck out with several thousand dollars, and after telling Glen of her own pregnancy, began to wonder if maybe they shouldn't just leave the babies where they were. Part of her motivation was greed, but part was also that she knew how much suffering it would cause. After Lexie nearly succeeded in getting her killed, all bets were off, and Barb and Glen announced the truth.
Hope and Bo were not thrilled to learn that Glen and Barb wanted their child, and there were dual custody battles launched. One between the Reibers and the Bradys, with Glen fighting for his son, and one between the Bradys and the Carvers, with the Bradys demanding the return of their son. Bo and Hope firmly believed that they should be raising both boys. With the help of attorney Cameron Reese, Glen and Barb won custody of little J.T., choosing to keep his name and simply adding 'Reiber' onto the end of it. Being a full-time mother softened Barb considerably, and she and Glen graciously offered Bo and Hope the chance to see J.T. whenever they wanted. Barb was last seen in the late stages of her pregnancy when she, Glen, and J.T. were visited in Chicago.

Brief Character History

The early history of Ava Vitali was shown only in flashbacks as she told the story of her past with Steve to other characters on the show. Ava was the daughter of mob boss, Martino Vitali. She was raised spoiled, sheltered, and in the "family business." Ava met Steve (whom she called "Patch") when Martino hired Patch to do some jobs for the family. (Patch had escaped from the DiMera compound, although all memories of his life with Kayla had been erased.) Ava and Patch fell in love. For two years they dated and were lovers. Eventually, Patch and Ava decided to marry. But, Patch was abducted by the DiMeras and left Ava at the altar. Ava was heartbroken. Later, Ava was diagnosed with brief psychotic disorder after Steve left, and her father put her on medication and did not allow her to leave the family grounds.
Ava appeared on screen in February 2008 in Ireland. Ava was desperate to get Steve back, so she ordered the sabotage of the plane that carried Steve and other members of the Brady family. She was hoping that the plane would be delayed. Instead, the plane had problems mid-flight. The plane crashed and three people, including grandpa Shawn Brady, were killed. Ava followed Steve back to Salem. While mourning Shawn's death, Hope hugged Steve. Ava saw them and mistook Hope for Steve's wife. Ava kidnapped Hope and held her prisoner at the Vitali compound. Steve, Bo, and Kayla followed in pursuit of Hope, and they were held captive, as well. Ava's reign of terror continued as she did many things to physically and emotionally harm her prisoners. Finally, Roman and Abe rescued them and arrested Ava.
While being held prisoner, Kayla had a talk with Ava about her doctor's appointments. Ava told her that the doctor her father hired prescribed pills for her to take. Kayla stole the pills and had them analyzed. The tests showed that the pills prescribed for Kayla were anti-seizure medication, which caused mood swings and manic episodes-a toxic combination for a woman suffering from brief psychotic disorder. Ava went through a painful detox and emerged as a much healthier person.
Ava confronted her father about the pills in the middle of the Brady Pub, surrounded by Bo, Angelo, and other Vitali goons. He denied doing anything wrong and, unfortunately, Ava's doctor had mysteriously died and couldn't comment on the situation. Ava also confronted her father with her mother's death. Ava confessed that she overheard a conversation between Martino and one of his men where Martino confessed that he had Ava's mom killed. When Ava tried to attack Martino, he pulled a gun on her, but Bo shot first. Martino died instantly.
With no more Steve and no more "daddy," Ava tried to move on with her life. She hired EJ DiMera to be her lawyer when she faced charges for tampering with the plane from Ireland. She also started a friendship with Nicole Walker and the two began patrolling the town for martinis and men. Ava met and took a liking to John Black DiMera, who was separated (though not legally) from Marlena. Ava convinced John to move forward with his new lifestyle as head of the DiMera empire. However, when EJ told Ava that it did not look good for her to beat the charges since one of her cousins agreed to testify against her, Ava jumped bail and left John and Salem behind. It is believed that she was headed for her family's private compound in Tuscany.

Brief Character History

He met good girl Carrie Brady and they fell in love, much to the chagrin of her father, Roman. Austin was known to be a brilliant piano player, but as of late, we haven't seen much of this skill. Austin showed his loving, vulnerable side to Carrie. Austin, also a boxer, was involved in a prize fight which he was supposed to lose on purpose. He didn't do that. As a result, acid, as revenge for not participating, hit Carrie and she became scarred. Meanwhile, little Abby Deveraux developed leukemia. Austin was a match and he donated his bone marrow.
Austin's sister, Billie, was charged with the murder of their father, Curtis. Through a twisted chain of events, it was revealed that Kate was the Reed childrens' mother. Austin accepted her, Billie didn't. Sami soon became obsessed with Austin. She drugged him, and raped him. When he discovered what he'd done, he told her that this affair couldn't continue. A pregnant Sami ran off to LA.
Austin and Carrie made their way to alter, only to be interrupted by Sami admitting she was pregnant and the groom was the father. Doing what was right , he devoted his time to the baby and Sami. William Robert reed was born soon after that.
Sami and Austin married after Will was taken by French authorities. Then Austin ran Sami over with his car, causing her to get amnesia. He could not annul his marriage to a woman with amnesia. Eventually, they did separate. On the day they were supposed to remarry (Austin thought Carrie was in love with Dr. Mike Horton), it was revealed Sami was faking her amnesia and Lucas was Will's father. Austin and Carrie married that same day.
Sami was accused of murder not long after she accused Lucas of child abuse. Austin took Will and Sami on the run, evading the police. Carrie, feeling abandoned, found solace in the arms of Mike Horton.
Sami was freed in the nick of time. Carrie and Austin continued to have problems in their marriage, finally separating and divorcing when Carrie left Salem with Dr. Mike. Austin and Sami finally reunited, and were just about to get married when Austin learned the truth about Sami's past history. He left her at the altar in Las Vegas.
Three years after leaving town, Austin returned to Salem, and was instrumental in saving Sami from a life in prison (or worse). He soon opened up a new company in Salem, hiring both Nicole Walker and Sami Brady. There was another reason he came back to Salem, though -- he had never stopped loving Carrie Brady. When Austin and Carrie finally met again in Salem, both realized the other had never forgotten them and wanted to try again, but unfortunately Austin had just taken over Carrie's company highstyle without knowing Carrie was the C.E.O.
Austin eventually learned the truth, but it was too late to do anything. Carrie had recently discovered she was pregnant with Lucas' baby, and with Carrie looking forward to a future with Lucas, Austin renewed his connection with Sami. They nearly wed, even though Austin's heart remained with Carrie, but Austin and Carrie learned that Sami had lied that they shared genetic markers that would make having a child inadvisable. After Carrie learned she was never pregnant with Lucas' baby, she and Austin found their way back to each other and wed before leaving Salem for Switzerland. A few months later, Austin's nephew, Will, came to live with Carrie and him in Switzerland.
In September 2011, Austin and Carrie returned to Salem for the dedication of the Horton Square. While there, Austin got a call from work, telling him that he needed to go over the files of a CEO who was up on embezzlement charges. It turned out the CEO was John Black.

Brief Character History

Arianna arrived in Salem when Caroline hired her as a waitress at the Brady Pub. Soon after she started her job, she reconnected with her brother Rafe, who had also relocated to Salem. Almost immediately, Arianna began protesting her brother's relationship with Sami Brady. She warned that "what happened before" will "happening again."
Despite the chemistry and a flirtation with Brady Black, Arianna would not accept Brady's date offer. Arianna made her reason for rejecting him clear – she’d dated drug addicts in the past and didn’t want to go through it again, even though Brady protested that he’d been clean and in recovery for over a year. Eventually, their passion won out and she agreed to go out with him. They shared a romantic picnic in the park followed by a steamy midnight swim at the Kiriakis Mansion a few weeks later.
However, it turned out Arianna had her own connections with drugs and her job at the Brady Pub was part of that plan. She started to use the pub as a front to receive and distribute drugs. She was an ambitious drug dealer and kept demanding to meet the drug kingpin. But, this was all an act. It turned out that Arianna was working undercover for Roman and the Salem PD to try to get to the bottom of the drug distribution in Salem.
That drug leader, was none other than Victor Kiriakis. And when he learned that Arianna was one of his lower "dealers," he forced Arianna to brake up with Brady. Crushed, Arianna went to Roman to see if he could get out of her undercover assignment, but Roman would not let her. Arainna continued her mission to uncover the identity of Salem's top drug lord, and had to push Brady away in the process.
Brady did not give up. He continued to press Arianna to trust him and eventually she told him the truth. He offered to help with her investigation and put the Kiriakis team to work to find the drug lord. Little did Arianna or Brady know that they were both looking for Victor! When Victor found that Brady was involved with Arianna, he sold the drug business to E.J. DiMera.
Determined to get the investigation stopped, E.J. ordered one of his lieutenants, Troy, to take care of Arianna. Troy broke into the Brady Pub when Arianna was alone. Brady arrived at the Pub just in time to save Arianna. Troy was arrested for attempted murder and Arianna's cover was blown. She was taken off the case.
Free from the secrets from her past, Arianna started a happy life with Brady. The two got engaged and went to a tropical island to marry. But, they had a special guest at their would-be wedding. Nicole followed Brady to the island and begged him for another chance. A tropical storm kept the ceremony from happening so the three returned to Salem. Nicole hatched a plot to get Arianna away from Brady.
Nicole found out that Dr. Baker was an associate of the Salem Mugger. So, Nicole made Dr. Baker plant Arianna's hair at a crime scene. Arianna was arrested and charged with the crimes. Brady hesitated believing that she was innocent and Arianna broke up with Brady on the spot.
E.J. took on Arianna's case. He got her out on bail and looked for evidence that Nicole framed Arianna. Before the investigation was complete, Hope confessed to the crimes. She was under the influence of sleeping pills when she mugged and assaulted men in Salem.
Arianna then turned her attention towards her family and friends. On her way to Chloe and Daniel's wedding, Arianna overheard Sami confess to shooting E.J. Arianna always felt that E.J. had been a good friend to her and wanted him to know the truth. But, she went to her brother, Rafe, first to warn him about Sami. Rafe told Arianna that he knew that Sami shot E.J. and if Arianna went to the police, Rafe would back up Sami. Arianna knew she had to get proof before going to the police.
Arianna agreed to meet with Sami and hear Sami's side of the story. Sami recapped why and when she shot E.J. Arianna listened and then said that she was going to the police- with proof. Arianna secretly video taped Sami's confession. Sami attacked Arianna before she left, but Arianna got away.
Sami called Will and Rafe to try to get them to stop Arianna. Will found Arianna at the pub. He tried to stop her from telling E.J. the truth. Arianna told Will she couldn't talk about the crime. Will tried again, and Arianna ran away from him. She ran into the road and was hit by a car. A few days later, she died in the hospital from complications of the accident.
After her death, Arianna's ghost haunted Sami with the truth about E.J.'s shooting.

Brief Character History

Raised in Australia by his mother and never knowing his father, Tony didn't meet Stefano DiMera until he was a grown man and then spent many years in Europe as Stefano's protégé. Tony came to Salem in 1981 to reconcile with his wife Liz and to check on his assets that were being handled by Stuart Whyland after he noticed that Stuart had made a $25,000 error in the hospital's financial records. After Stuart's illegal actions were uncovered he quickly left town and Tony took over his own finances. Later Tony bought the Twilight Bar and made Trish Clayton-Banning the manager and hired Danny Grant as the bartender. Tony also became infatuated with Renee Dumonde and began wooing her with gifts.
In 1982 Tony kidnapped Liz Chandler, who was still legally his wife since they never divorced. Tony wanted Doug's Place, and with Stefano's help, he forced Liz to spy on Doug for him by threatening to harm Neil Curtis, Liz's new lover, if she didn't. Stefano and Tony had learned that there were titanium deposits underneath Doug's Place and they intended on finding them. They found a passage from a secret room in the DiMera mansion (which Stuart had built) to the basement of Doug's Place, but in the end the entire thing ended up to be a big hoax.
When Liz asked for a divorce, Tony refused and eventually beat and raped her. Later Stefano tried to have Neil killed by planting a bomb in his room. Tony continued to pursue a relationship with Renee, even though her mother Lee warned him to stay away from her. Renee was attacked by the Salem Strangler again and this time she saw his faced, but repressed the memory. Fearing the Strangler would try for a fourth time, Tony DiMera hid Renee in his house.
Later in 1982 Tony proposed to Renee, who accepted. However, Renee discovered Lee's diary and learned that Stefano DiMera was her father, making Tony her half-brother. Renee quickly broke off the engagement, but did not tell him the real reason in order to spare his feelings. Tony refused to let Renee go yet when she told him the truth he refused to believe they were siblings. Tony blamed Stefano for breaking them up, and when Tony tried to leave town, Stefano faked a heart attack. Tony later learned that he and Renee were not related and he had the blood tests to prove it. Unfortunately, Renee had already married David Banning and refused to leave her husband.
Around the same time, Liz Chandler became pregnant with Neil's child, yet Tony believed it was his. He the made his estranged wife a proposition - he would grant Liz her divorce, but only after the baby was born as he wanted to raise the child if it turned out to be his. In 1983 Liz gave birth to a daughter, Noelle, and when Tony realized she was Neil's child, he quickly divorced Liz.
As Tony began to move on with his life, and new love interest Anna Fredericks, Stefano "died" and in his will stated that in order to earn their inheritance Tony and Renee had to live under the same roof for one year and Renee had to stay married to David Banning. The will also declared that the first couple to have a child would receive an extra five million dollars. Anna soon became pregnant with Tony's child causing a jealous Renee to arrange Anna's death in a boating "accident." Unfortunately Tony was on the boat with Anna when the explosion went off. Tony and Anna were rescued by David, but Anna lost the baby. Later that year, Tony learned exactly how Anna got him to marry her - by drugging him! Tony quickly divorced her, even though they had fallen in love by that time.
In 1984 Tony was chained up in his penthouse apartment by his evil look-a-like cousin Andre, who had also assumed Tony's identity. Tony was eventually rescued by Roman Brady, but, after a duel with his imposter, Andre managed to slip away. Andre returned to Stefano's island compound were the two planned on acquiring three prisms designed by Larry Welch's father. Stefano wanted these prisms to heal an inoperable brain tumor he had. One prism was in the belly of an alligator, another in a necklace owned by Daphne DiMera which fell into Calliope Jones' hands and the third in Russia.
After his rescue, Tony, Anna, and Alex Marshall formed a fashion company and picked Haiti for one of their photo shoots. In addition to Tony and Anna, aboard the plane to the shoot were Eugene Bradford, Calliope Jones, Bo Brady, Hope Williams, Liz Chandler, Carlo Forenza, Daphne DiMera and stowaway Andre DiMera! While in flight, Andre shocked his enemies by emerging and demanded the pilot to change courses. Because of his threatening nature, the pilot died of a heart attack and the plane crashed on a remote island. As a result of injuries obtained in the crash Daphne died in Andre's arms. When Tony learned about his mother's fate, he and Andre fought which ended with Andre's demise in a patch of quicksand. Tony gave the necklace with the prism to an island girl, but Stefano managed to get the prism back. Eventually, Roman showed up to rescue his family and friends, but ended up in a fight with Stefano atop a nearby cliff as Bo watched from below. Roman fell and "died" on the beach in Bo's arms. Bo left to get help, but when he returned Roman's body had mysteriously vanished. A short time later the Coast Guard arrived and the survivors were rescued.
Tony and Anna became engaged once again in 1985. Their first marriage attempt was thwarted by Alex who hired an actor to play the part of the minister. Their second try was thwarted when Anna was kidnapped by an Asian potentate. However, their third attempt was successful and Tony and Anna were officially wed. After returning to Salem, Anna was accused of murdering her art dealer, Claud Van Zandt, who had swindled her out of the profits from pieces of hers he had sold. Anna was innocent, but while trying to prove that Tony vanished. Anna was also blamed for her husband's disappearance, but in truth Tony was held captive by a very much alive Claud Van Zandt. Claud was eventually exposed and Anna was let off the hook. Shortly afterwards, Tony was blackmailed by Emma Donovan and was forced to divorce Anna and leave Salem. Anna received divorce papers in the mail, assuming they were from Tony. In reality, Tony had been kidnapped by Stefano and was stranded on a deserted island where he would spend the next twenty-two years of his life.
In 2007, John, Marlena and Anna located Tony and he confirmed what had been stated many years earlier - he was not Stefano's biological child. Although reluctant to face Stefano again, Anna urged him to return to Salem to confront his past (and his "father"). Tony agreed not only to go back with them, but to team up with the Brady Family in order to help end the DiMera/Brady Vendetta once and for all. During this time, Tony also confronted his feelings for Anna and they both admitted they had never truly stopped loving each other and reunited.
Upon returning to Salem, Tony not only faced off with Stefano, but Andre as well who had been impersonating him on and off over the past twenty-two years. After several battles with both of his enemies, Tony came out on top by the time the "Vendetta" ended. With Stefano in a coma and Andre dead, he purchased an advertising agency and started to enjoy his life back in town. His rekindled romance with Anna, however, was a rocky one. She often felt neglected and unappreciated by Tony and he was often frustrated by her hot and cold attitude towards him. Things only got worse when Kate Roberts contracted Tony's new company, DiMera Advertising, to do marketing for her new business endeavor, Kate's Hearth and Home. Tony and Kate working side by side only made Anna more jealous and she and Kate often took verbal jabs at one another. In the end, however, Tony and Anna wed again in May of 2008 and have been enjoying the perks of being married - again!
Tony took the opportunity of being back in Salem to keep an eye on Stefano and bring some respect to the DiMera name by forming a bond with his siblings. He supported Lexie through her struggles with Theo's autism. And, he frequently warned EJ about getting too involved in Stefano's shady business practices. But when EJ did not listen to Tony, Tony set off on his own to teach EJ a lesson.
While EJ and Philip were fighting over the rights to the alternative fuels project, Tony went directly to Melanie and bought the project for himself. This move angered Philip and he went to confront Tony. Meanwhile, Tony also learned that Nicole lost her baby, faked her pregnancy, and adopted a baby to present as a EJ's biological child. Thrilled to have two pieces of information that would bring EJ down, Tony called a family meeting. Tony planned to expose Nicole's secret and the news about the fuels project at once. But, Philip confronted Tony at the pier. They struggled and as Tony was leaving, he tripped an fell over the railing, onto a sharp plank. Nicole was also on the pier and saw the whole thing. Tony was taken to this hospital where he got a chance to leave EJ a clue (he wrote the letter "B") before he died from a heart attack, which resulted from complications from his fall.
